historic phase of Kuwait oil industry, KNPC signed the contracts of Al-Zour
Refinery Project (ZOR) on 13 October 2015. The project will be commissioned in
July 2019, while initial operation will start in December 2018.
ZOR is an
essential part of KPC & KNPC strategy to increase the refining capacity of
Kuwait up to 1.41 million bpd. It is, in addition to CFP, the third quantum
leap in the history of Kuwaiti refining industry after the first breakthrough
in the sixties and then comprehensive update in the eighties.
refining capacity of ZOR is 615,000 bpd, including 225,000 bpd of low-sulfur fuel
oil to meet the requirements of power generating stations in Kuwait, which will
highly reduce the environmental impacts, too. The new refinery can also refine
different types of Kuwaiti oil such as Kuwait Export Crude (KEC) and Kuwait
Heavy Crude (KHC) produced from west Kuwait.
